How to clip poker hands from a VOD.

A poker clip is one hand, cut cleanly from a long recording. Here is how to do it by hand, where it gets slow, and how PokerStreamClipper does the finding for you on indexed broadcasts.

Clipping a hand by hand

  1. Get the recording. Use the original file or a VOD you have the rights to download.
  2. Find the hand. Scrub to the action. A broadcast's hand counter and pot graphics help you spot where one hand ends and the next begins.
  3. Mark the start and end. Start a few seconds before the deal or the first action you need. End once the pot is pushed or the reaction has played out, before the next deal.
  4. Cut it. In an editor, or with ffmpeg:
ffmpeg -ss 1:02:15 -to 1:05:40 -i stream.mp4 -c:v libx264 -c:a aac hand.mp4

Re-encoding, as above, makes the clip start exactly where you asked and keeps the audio in sync. Copying streams without re-encoding is faster but can only cut on keyframes, so the clip may start a few seconds early.

For Shorts, Reels or TikTok, crop or reframe to 9:16 and keep the pot and cards visible; the broadcast's overlay is often along the bottom and sides.

Where it gets slow

Cutting a hand takes a minute. Finding it is the slow part: a four-hour stream can hold a hundred hands, and you usually want the five that matter. Repeating that every week, for every stream, is where the hours go.

How PokerStreamClipper does it

For indexed broadcasts, PokerStreamClipper reads the broadcast's own graphics, such as the hand counter, pot, player names and cards, and splits the recording into individual hands. Each hand is already its own clip with its time in the original stream.

The public catalog covers Garage Game Live today. Overlay readings can be wrong, so check names, cards and pots before you quote them.
