Poker RTA Policy Template For Card Rooms And Online Sites

Poker rooms do not need to wait for a scandal before writing rules for solvers, AI tools, wearable devices, and real-time assistance.

Real-time assistance, or RTA, is any outside strategic help used while a hand is still in progress. It can come from a solver, a script, another person, a screen-sharing setup, a wearable display, or an AI system that interprets table information. The device matters less than the timing: if advice arrives during the hand, the game is no longer player versus player.

Plain-Language Rule

A good policy starts with a sentence every player can understand: players may not use software, devices, outside communication, or artificial intelligence to receive strategic advice during a hand. That rule should apply to phones, laptops, watches, glasses, earbuds, private displays, and any future device with similar capability.

Allowed Uses

The policy should distinguish study from cheating. Solvers, training tools, and hand review software are legitimate away from the table or after a session. Notes may be allowed depending on the venue. Music may be allowed if the device cannot capture or display table information.

Prohibited Uses

• Consulting a solver, chart, model, or adviser during a hand.
• Streaming table video or images to a third party.
• Receiving private strategic prompts through audio, text, or display.
• Using camera-enabled wearable devices at the table.
• Coordinating decisions with another account or player.

Enforcement

Enforcement should be predictable. Staff should be able to ask a player to remove a prohibited device, stop using a device, or step away from the table. Repeated or intentional violations should lead to penalties, removal, forfeiture, or account review depending on the setting.

A written RTA policy protects honest players and honest venues. It gives staff a standard to apply, reduces arguments at the table, and signals that poker technology is being taken seriously before it becomes a crisis.
